washing basin of another sort

there’s a reservoir i find deep inside

a pool of mirrors, turned malleable

i swim there

dip my toe

lie on my back

weightless

forgetting the

tick

tock

of time

i visit

but i can’t seem to stay

not yet

anyway

if i dip the slivers of my soul

inside

just for the slightest

of breaths

they grow

the battered

bruised

surface

glowing

shining

with new strength

scar tissue proving

i can do this

and so can you

believe in magic

believe in you

pinky promise?

promise me this

if you get lost

you’ll keep looking for a path, a light, an opening

don’t give up

don’t give in to the cold and the darkness so eagerly reaching its hands out to you, fingers outstretched, wanting you to curl up in a ball at the base of a gulf so wide and deep you’ll never find which way is up to crawl out

keep going

one breath at a time

one choice at a time

one footstep into the unknown you’re facing at a time

knowing

knowing you can handle whatever comes next

and no matter how much it hurts, stretches you, scars you – you are stronger

promise me

promise me

you will never give up

Letter to Chronic Pain

I think it’s time to write an angry letter
I’m tired of this non-life
I want to get better

I meditate and write
Go to therapy
I fight

I give it my all, I keep going, I tried
Gave away all my dreams
All my dignity and pride

I did everything you said
But I’m still here
Stuck in bed

I wake to this nightmare, barely remember
Remember what it was like
To breathe, to be her

The me who could stand, could choose
Growing and becoming
Everything to lose

I need and I miss her so very terribly
Don’t abandon me like this
Don’t leave me
Don’t leave me

I’m not living, not alive
My heart beats
But it’s a lie

I’m trapped inside this pain
Kicking, screaming
I’m going insane

Round and round I go
You say you understand
But most don’t know
Most don’t know

What it’s like to choke and burn alone
With no help working, no end in sight
Where joy is unknown

Everything out of sync, clock without time
Like a poem without purpose
Without rhythm
Without rhyme

Be more grateful, more positive, you say
Like I’m not clawing and clinging
To hope every day

It takes all I have to pretend I’m okay
Smile to make you feel better
I’m fading away

I want to write an angry, desperate letter
But to whom do I write?
We just want to get better

Rosy

the world fell apart

did you notice?

i fell with the ashes

the soot crowned

me numb

i don’t know that i

ever got back up

beneath the rubble

living where they never suspect

building

with the shattered bricks

they left me under

a corpse

they never counted

a ghost

they’ll never see coming

they never do

we all fell down

did you feel it?

Social Media and Guns Are the Same Type of Thing

EVERYTHING is a 2-sided coin.

I believe social media is no different.

Take away twitter, take away blogs and instagram and tik tok, etc… People will STILL find a way to hurt each other.

I think everything we have created or discovered is usable for good or evil. It all depends on the choices we make.

Like guns. Take away guns, make them illegal – bad people will get them illegally and if they cannot, they will use a knife, a brick, their nearest blunt object. If someone has decided they’re going to kill someone, the objects available won’t typically change their mind about killing them. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Guns and social media are both TOOLS.

How we use them matters.

And I will always, ALWAYS, opt to have social media even though it spreads pain. Humans will always find a way to spread pain (I don’t understand why, but it’s true). But look at the good social media can do.

THE POSITIVE POTENTIAL IS LIMITLESS.

How would the isolated, abused, and young human being know there are good people in the world? That there ARE people that exist that truly care? Or people that have been through the same thing and

Are.

Now.

Okay.

They made it through and you can too.

Without social media I wouldn’t have known.

Social media connects us and HUMAN CONNECTION is the only way to live this life. Isolation hurts most of us. It is literally a way to torture another human.

We need each other. And social media can connect us.

I will keep it because there is goodness that comes of it. And I want to squeeze all the goodness out of this world there is to find. We deserve to enjoy this life, we deserve hope and inner peace.

How has social media helped you?

Marble Tongues

Maybe when it drops down

We’ll make sense of it

Maybe not

If the sun drips sapphire

It might burn to the bone

Maybe simply warm

The ashes

Until they catch fire

If we drown in our riches

Perhaps the earth will sorrow

Or perhaps she’ll sigh

And drink down the blood

An offering to the carrion

To restore balance

Maybe when it falls down

We’ll make a foundation of it

Maybe not

If the bones keep dry

I’ll sleep inside the carcass

No one will breathe my way

Never Give Up

Let me put that better…

Always keep moving forward, always keep trying.

Whatever you’re struggling with today, you can handle it, I promise.

Even if it’s hard and it’s a struggle the whole time – you’re still winning.

I mean, seriously – what’s your track record?

You’ve survived every single bad day, horrid challenge, and painful experience. You’ve beaten all of your trials in life. You have a 100% success rate.

You’re still here. You’re still trying.

Don’t forget to pay attention to how much you’ve grown, achieved, learned, and succeeded at.

You’ve got this.
